Maintenance and Asset Management

Hogeschool Utrecht University of Applied Sciences
Building and Environment (HU)
Course code: H10
Advanced bachelor level

Hogeschool Utrecht offers students an opportunity to spend two weeks of intensive study on Maintenance and Asset Management.

The central theme of this course is the way in which Maintenance and Asset Management can contribute to the profit of a company. Maintenance should not just been seen as a contribution to the costs! In Profitability based Maintenance, the main scope will be to achieve the highest possible utilization of the system at the lowest possible operational cost. Students will discover tools to express the added value of the maintenance function in terms of costs per production unit, and to make the added value of maintenance visible to management.

This course gives an overview of the important aspects of Maintenance and Asset Management. The following topics are covered: Maintenance Management, Asset Utilization and Optimizing, Life Cycle Engineering, Methods for Design Optimizing, Condition Based Maintenance, Reliability Assessment and Safety.

The lectures on maintenance and asset management are an introduction in the subject. The lectures about reliability assessment and safety also include risk based inspection.

Condition based maintenance is an important aspect in Industrial Maintenance. To monitor the condition of an installation, several techniques are available. Non destructive testing is also an important tool. The latest developments in smart sensors will be covered as well.

It is important for the maintenance manager to be able to contribute knowledge of maintenance processes in the design phase of a system. Lectures about Life Cycle Engineering and Design Optimizing are therefore included. This will include systems engineering, value analysis and robust design. Sustainability plays an important role.

In addition to the lectures, there will be several excursions to companies where students will get an insight of state-of-the-art maintenance management in practice in Dutch companies.
