Chain Computerisation: a New Approach to Large-scale Communication Systems

Utrecht University
Faculty of Science (UU)
Course code: H8
Advanced bachelor level

This course focuses on information-infrastructures for chain wide co-operation of independent organizations and professionals in a specific social sector, e.g. criminal law enforcement, health care, identity management or education. This chain co-operation surpasses the complexities and problems of logistic chains and confronts us with the challenges of safe and reliable communication of critical and often confidential data at a national or international scale. You will discover why so many big information projects fail or produce poor and unreliable results. We will look at the use of biometrics in the criminal law enforcement chain to be able to reliably exchange criminal verdicts and records and to combat identity fraud in this chain. You are invited to do some internet research on a chain-information-infrastructure in your own country and to find out what approaches are better suited to the adversities of large-scale public-private chain co-operation.
