This three-week course will focus on Europe as a place to do business. You will explore the challenges faced by European companies, the solutions they find, and gain insight on how business cultures in the European Union influence the decision-making processes. The focus is on new business models, corporate social responsibility, sustainable innovation, and creative approaches to brand identity – all strategies used by European companies to prepare for the future.

This course combines a theoretical and practical approach. Interactive lectures, group assignments and company visits in the Netherlands and Milan (!) (Italy) will help you to shape your views on what works and what doesn’t.

The European Union (EU) is the most important alliance in Europe. The EU has become a major player on the world stage after years of expansion and growth, and represents over 500 million inhabitants and 20 percent of the worldwide import and export. Cooperation between the member states is characterized by far-reaching economic integration. Nowadays the EU faces serious challenges in its role as a major player in the global economy, such as the global shift.

This three-week course will focus on Europe as a place to do business. In the first week you will look at the European Union as a business network and ecosystem. Next to lectures, students will work on several case studies. After the first week, we will travel to Italy together for the next week of the course that will be hosted in the city of Milan.

In the second week, you will work on trends and business in the fashion and design industry. This part of the course is situated in Italy and students are immersed in the Italian culture and economy to work on a case study.

The third week students are back in Utrecht, the Netherlands were you will finalize your understanding of the trends and issues regarding international business in Europe.

The bus transport to Italy, as well as the transport and accomodation in Italy, are included in the course fee.

Due to the arrangements that need to be made for your stay in Italy, housing for this course is mandatory.
