The cardiovascular system takes a central role in life by connecting all our organs. This allows for maintenance of a healthy environment for all the cells that make up the tissues of the body. Disturbance of the cardiovascular system therefore can have severe health effects. In this course you will be trained by expert researchers that study the cardiovascular system and are working at UMC Utrecht in the spearhead Circulatory Health. Lectures will cover topics as vascular function, cardiac function, imaging, genetics to epidemiology, and cardiac electrophysiology.

The course Cardiovascular Research digs into the cardiovascular system. Both physiology and pathophysiology of the cardiovascular system are discussed at a fundamental, translational, and clinical level. State of the art cardiovascular research is presented by expert researchers from the UMC Utrecht, related to the spearhead Circulatory Health. (For more information, please visit: http://www.umcutrecht.nl/en/Research/Research-programs/Circulatory-Health) Topics such as vascular (dys)function, cardiac (dys)function, cardiac electrophysiology, imaging, and genetics to epidemiology are covered in this course.
Dr. T.P. de Boer
Advanced bachelor students with a (bio)medical background that are interested in the cardiovascular system. Students should have a basic knowledge of cardiovascular physiology.
English language proficiency is required for this course.
This course aims to increase students' knowledge about cardiovascular pathophysiology. In addition, the lectures and practicals provide the students more insight in cardiovascular research performed in the UMC Utrecht, both in a fundamental and a clinical setting.
The course consists of lectures provided by experts (2-4h daily) and practicals. In addition, students prepare a group assignment to unravel a cardiovascular research topic. Selfstudy for this assignment is incorporated in the course.
